    Description

This is a set of upper and lower jaws of three species of badger which are cast in durable urethane resin. Represented in this set are the American badger (
    taxidea
    ), the Eurasian/European badger (
    meles
) and the infamous honey badger (
    mellivora
). This set is great for educational use for comparative anatomy and the three species of badger represent three continents - North America, Africa and Asia. All are very similar in general appearance, though upon closer inspection it can be seen that the Eurasian badger is the least carnivorous of the three. Its incisors are flatter and the molars more developed for crushing rather than slicing, reflecting its preference for insects and other invertebrates.  The honey badger and American badger are more similar to each other, though the honey badger seems to be the more carnivorous of the two based on its dentition.  Both of the latter two species are active predators and the honey badger is even capable of taking down large snakes, including venomous ones which it seems to be immune to. However, stories of honey badgers killing cape buffalo and other very large prey are simply extreme exaggerations, to say the least. All three of the jaws will be labeled on top with magic marker as to which specie they are.  These jaws are the perfect size for smaller projects like models, puppets, toys, and other things require a carnivore jaw with a smaller scale. This urethane can be drilled, sanded and machined and can be glued (hot glue works well) especially if the surface is scuffed or sanded first. These casts are also paintable - however you will need to lightly scuff the surface with a steel wool or scouring pad in order to get good paint adhesion. I got good results with scuffing, wiping with denatured alcohol and then priming with the spray can automotive-type primer available in stores. Then it can be painted with virtually any type of paint.
