Description
The red-tailed boa constrictor inhabits the Central and South American rainforest ecosystem. These animals are heavy-bodied snakes that prey upon small mammals, reptiles, and birds. These snakes have been known to grow over 10 feet in length. Due to its docile nature, these animals are a common find in the pet trade. This skeleton belonged to that of an adult female that measured over 6 feet in length. Cleaned by the dermestid beetle method, this DISARTICULATED skeleton exhibits excellent bone quality and is a complete specimen looking for a reptile enthusiast who’d like a large puzzle to assemble.
PLEASE READ: This specimen will be packed with proper padding so it should hold up to the abuse it will take during the shipping process. The verts and ribs will be packed separately and should have no issue. The skull however is a bit more fragile. The mandibles of snake skulls are simply glued on using a super glue adhesive. During the snakes life the mandibles are held on by ligaments. This is so the snake can stretch its mouth over large prey items. While in the bug colony during the skull cleaning process, the dermestid beetles eat everything that is not bone. Therefore, the bugs strip away those ligaments. This however is no problem, after the skull is run through a series of peroxide baths, the mandibles are just glued in the proper place. Don’t be alarmed if the during the shipping process a mandible were to pop off. This skull will be packed well enough that shouldn’t happen but if it does, it can simply just be glued back on. If a specimen were to arrive after experiencing a rough transit and a mandible has popped loose, please understand that 99% of the time it’s merely the glue that broke, and NOT the specimen.
Please see photos for details. The skull photo can be used as a reference for bone placement should a mandible need re-glued.
